Your MeridianLink bottle and notebook set off a lasting ripple effect of positive change.

In partnership with RIPL Goods, your bottle is funding a full day of work for someone living in a remote coastal community to collect plastic from beaches, rivers and villages, helping to lift them and their family out of poverty. Meanwhile, your notebook is funding the purchase and protection of 1000 sq ft of rainforest, protecting the endangered species that call it home. Forever.

MeridianLink's impact in numbers

750

The number of employment days that MeridianLink has provided for RIPL's team of plastic collectors so far.

20,250

The amount of plastic, measured in lbs, that will be prevented from reaching the ocean during that time (based on average collection rates).

750,000 sq ft

The area of rainforest that has been protected thanks to MeridianLink x RIPL notebooks.

3,600

The approximate number of fully grown rainforest trees that have been saved as a result of this protection (based on average distribution)

172,800

The estimated amount of CO2, measured in pounds, that will be absorbed by those trees every year.

How our ocean impact program works

Step 1: Collection

The proceeds from your bottle are being used to fund the employment of plastic collectors in remote coastal communities. Our teams clean beaches and waterways, and collect directly from homes and businesses where previous no collection routes existed.

Step 2: Sorting

The waste is taken to an 'impact center', where it's sorted ready for recycling.

Step 3: Tracking

Every item of plastic is weighed and registered to verify collection.

Step 4: Processing

Once the data has been registered, the plastic is taken to be recycled, repurposed, or transported to a waste recovery facility.

How our rainforest impact program works

Step 1: Funding

Every time MeridianLink orders a RIPL notebook, funds are sent to our impact partner, enabling them to expand existing protected zones or establish new ones.

Step 2: Identifying land

Our impact parter identifies plots of land that fits strict criteria, ensuring every purchase has maximum impact on native wildlife.

Step 3: Purchase

Once the sale has been negotiated and the land has been purchased, ownership is handed over to local conservation groups, ensuring it's protected from logging and mining, forever.

Step 4: Protection

New ownership is just the beginning - to ensure the land is protected from ongoing threats like poaching and illegal logging, local people are hired and trained as rangers, providing employment and empowering local communities to protect their land.

Where the impact takes place

Our plastic collection teams are based in remote coastal communities across Bali (Indonesia), Kerala (India), and the Solomon Islands (South Pacific) – three plastic pollution hotspots, where a high proportion of local people lack access to reliable employment with fair and equitable pay.

Our rainforest impact takes place in projects around the world. So far our impact partner has protected land in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina.

With MeridianLink's incredible support, we've been able to expand our impact, with future projects planned for several more communities in ocean plastic and deforestation hot spots, spreading the ripple effect further around the world.

Why we do it

One garbage truck of plastic is discarded into our oceans and 21 acres of rainforest are cut down... every minute of every day.

But despite the scale of the problem, we believe that every action really can make a huge difference.

We focus our efforts on creating systemic change by generating employment, protecting land and launching recycling programs so the impact extends far beyond the initial action, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
