MetLife's 2025 holiday impact:
A lifetime of clean water for 2150 people

Since 2023, MetLife has been funding impact projects globally through their holiday gift, in partnership with RIPL Goods and BAMKO. This year, the limited edition MetLife Travel Laptop Sleeve is funding a lifetime of clean water for 2150 people living in a remote communities in East and Southern Africa. This is the story that life-changing impact.

MetLife's impact

By funding the construction and maintenance of water pumps through their end-of-year gift, MetLife has given 2150 people access to safe drinking water. Here are just some of the remarkable benefits that has...

The end of collection journeys

Families no longer face daily, exhausting and often dangerous walks to distant wells or rivers. Women who once carried heavy containers for miles each day can now use that time to study, earn income, and spend more time in the community.

More time in school

The impact on children is profound. With taps close to home, they gain back hours each day for school, and they no longer miss class because of waterborne illness. With a better education, they’re empowered to find a path out of poverty.

Health

With a much lower risk of catching waterborne diseases, people live longer, happier lives. Families spend less of their hard-earned income on medicine. Handwashing becomes part of daily life, and children learn about hygiene at school. Clinics can reliably wash equipment, and families are better protected at home.

How it works

Step 1: Funding

Funds from the Limited Edition MetLife x RIPL Travel Laptop Sleeve are sent to our impact partners to fund the construction of new wells and pumps.

Step 2: Planning

Communities are identified where a lack of accessible clean drinking water is having a deeply damaging effect.

Step 3: Collaboration

Local leaders, health workers and residents all work together to plan and approve the new type of water system and its placement.

Step 4: Construction

Once a site is arranged, the new well is dug, a pump system is built, or a tank is installed. Local people are then trained to maintain it and spare parts are provided, ensuring a lifetime of safe and accessible drinking water for the entire community.

A legacy of holiday giving

MetLife's impact from 2023-present

2023 - Ocean

In 2023, the MetLife x RIPL bottle funded 4300 employment days for RIPL's team of plastic collectors in Bali and the Solomon Islands, helping to lift them and their families out of poverty. During that time, they prevented 103,200 pounds of plastic from reaching the ocean by cleaning rivers, beaches and local villages. That's the equivalent of 4.3 million plastic bottles.

2024 - Rainforest

In 2024, the MetLife x RIPL tech bag funded the purchase and protection of 4.3 million sq ft of the Amazon Rainforest, saving approximately 20,700 fully grown trees from deforestation. Those trees will absorb an estimated 990,000 pounds of CO2 every year, forever. The land was handed over to a local community for protection and added to a nature reserve for endangered species. This empowers indigenous people to protect their native forest while giving animals on the verge of extinction room to roam.

2025 - water

This year, the MetLife x RIPL Travel Laptop Sleeve is continuing MetLife's legacy of holiday giving by funding a lifetime of clean water for 2150 people in communities in East and Southern Africa. This life-changing resource eliminates long collection journeys, prevents waterborne illness, improves overall health and hygiene, and allows children to focus on their education.

From the bottom of our hearts - until next year - thank you.
