Welcome to the Nationwide team! We're excited to welcome you into a team that takes pride in delivering extraordinary care. In that spirit, we've curated a welcome kit that has extraordinary impact.

Your Nationwide bottle is funding a day of employment for someone living in a remote coastal community to collect plastic from beaches, helping to lift them and their family out of poverty. Meanwhile, your notebook is funding the purchase and protection of 1000 sq ft of rainforest, and your tech bag is funding a week of school for a child in an under-resourced community, helping to provide a clear path out of poverty.

This is just a small piece of the difference you can look forward to making at Nationwide.

Your impact in numbers

5000

The number of employment days that Nationwide has provided for coastal plastic collectors so far.

120,000 lbs

The amount of plastic that will be prevented from reaching the ocean during that time.

5,000,000 sq ft

The area of rainforest that has been protected thanks to Nationwide notebooks.

32,500

The approximate number of fully grown rainforest trees that have been saved as a result of this protection (based on average distribution)

1,788,000 lbs

The amount of CO2 that will be absorbed by those trees every decade.

25,000

The number of education days that have been funded by Nationwide Tech bags, for children in Zambia, Tanzania, Cambodia and Colombia.

8

The number of schools where students are benefiting from this funding.

20%

The average amount a child's future earning potential increases for every year of secondary school education they receive, in the countries in which our education impact program operates, as identified in recent studies by UNESCO.

How RIPL's ocean impact program works

Step 1: Collection

The proceeds from your water bottle are being used to fund the employment of plastic collectors in remote coastal communities. Our teams clean beaches and waterways, and collect directly from homes and businesses where previous no collection routes existed.

Step 2: Sorting

The waste is taken to an 'impact center', where it's sorted ready for recycling.

Step 3: Tracking

Every item of plastic is weighed and registered to verify collection.

Step 4: Processing

Once the data has been registered, the plastic is taken to be recycled, repurposed, or transported to a waste recovery facility.

How RIPL's rainforest impact program works

Step 1: Funding

Every time a RIPL notebook is ordered, funds are sent to our impact partner, enabling them to expand existing protected zones or establish new ones.

Step 2: Identifying land

Our impact parter identifies plots of land that fits strict criteria, ensuring every purchase has maximum impact on native wildlife.

Step 3: Purchase

Once the sale has been negotiated and the land has been purchased, ownership is handed over to local conservation groups, ensuring it's protected from logging and mining, forever.

Step 4: Protection

New ownership is just the beginning - to ensure the land is protected from ongoing threats like poaching and illegal logging, local people are hired and trained as rangers, providing employment and empowering local communities to protect their land.

How RIPL's education impact program works

Step 1: Identifying the problem

All over the world, girls face disproportionate barriers to education. Approximately 773 million people cannot read, with almost two thirds of those individuals being women and girls, keeping them trapped in poverty and holding them back from fulfilling their potential. Our education program supports children in communities facing deep education, gender and economic inequities, where investments in education sets off a ripple effect of positive change.

Step 2: Funding

Profit from every tech bag is sent to one of our partner organisations on the ground in Zambia, Tanzania, Cambodia or Colombia. They work in low-income communities that have limited access to learning resources, and set up programs that support girls as they develop into lifelong learners, breaking the cycle of illiteracy within their own families.

Step 3: Training and development

Local people are hired and trained as teachers, providing employment and empowering them to support the personal development of girls in their communities. Our impact partners continually evaluate programs, develop resources and ensure the quality of education is consistent across schools.

Step 4: Support

Alongside their standard curriculum, girls in our education impact program are given life-skills classes to help them navigate key life decisions that they're often expected to make at a young age.

Where the impact takes place

Our plastic collection teams are based in remote coastal communities across Bali (Indonesia), Kerala (India), and the Solomon Islands (South Pacific) – three plastic pollution hotspots, where a high proportion of local people lack access to reliable employment with fair and equitable pay.

Our rainforest impact takes place in projects around the world. So far our impact partner has protected land in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina.

Our education impact takes place in Zambia, Tanzania, Cambodia and Colombia.

With Nationwide's incredible support, we've been able to quickly expand our impact, with future projects planned for several more communities in ocean plastic, deforestation and illiteracy hot spots, spreading the ripple effect further around the world.

Thank you for your support
